Chapter 1 Schedule:Tuesday (8/28): Get an AP-ES binder. Take a look at the class website. Log into schoology (This may need to wait until all school accounts are created). Take the "AP-ES Diagnostic Exam" in Schoology.
Wednesday (8/29): Read: "How to Get the Most from This Book" in Friedland, et.al. 2012.; Watch the "Neuse River" and "Pfisteria" videos; Read "The Mysterious Neuse River Fish Killer" on pages 1 & 2 of Friedland, et.al. 2012.
Friday (8/30): Read and take notes on pages 2-22 in Friedland, et.al. 2012; Watch the two videos about how San Francisco is working toward sustainability. (DO NOT DO THIS NEXT PART, YET - the website is not up, currently: Using the Ecological Footprint Calculator linked on the classroom website, calculate your personal ecological footprint. Record the data in your notebook).
Tuesday (9/4): Download and read "A Synopsis of 'Limits to Growth:' The 30-year Update." Mark the text as described in class. Attach in your binder. Download and read "Revisiting 'Limits to Growth'" Mark the text as described in class. Attach in your binder.
Wednesday (9/5): Using Schoology, begin answering the multiple choice and free-response questions found on pages 23 and 24 of Relyea, et.al.
Friday (9/7): Using Schoology, finish answering the multiple choice and free-response questions found on pages 23 and 24 of Relyea, et.al. Submit binder for grade.
Saturday/Sunday (9/8 & 9/9): Chapter Work & Test Due: Take Chapter test on Schoology (it will be timed, so once you start, you cannot stop - there are no re-takes)

Wednesday (9/12): Read and take notes on pages 33-43 ["Acids, Bases, & pH" through "Energy conversions underlie all ecological processes"] in Friedland, et.al. 2012.
Thursday (9/13): Read and take notes on pages 43-46 ["Systems analysis shows how matter and energy flow in the environment" through"Natural systems change across space and time"] in Friedland, et.al. 2012.
Friday (9/14): Read and take notes on pages 47-48 ["Working Toward Sustainability: Managing Environmental Systems in the Florida Everglades"] in Friedland, et.al. 2012; Watch the videos: "Transforming the Picayune Strand," "Faka Union Video News Release," and the "Kissimmee River Restoration Video." Use the maps of the water flow in the Everglades (found on the left of this page) to aid your understanding of what they are discussing in the reading and the videos. Read and take notes on pages 52-55 ["Science Applied: Were We Successful in Halting the Growth of the Ozone Layer?"] in Friedland, et.al. 2012; Watch the video: "Ozone Layer Danger."
Saturday/Sunday (9/15 & 9/16): Download and read "Systems Thinking Primer for Natural Capital" Mark the text as described in class. Attach in your Binder. Download and read "Energy Implications of Bottled Water'" Mark the text as described in class. Attach in your binder. Work on making sure all of your binder content and chapter questions are completed. Submit answers to chapter questions on Schoology when they are complete. Chapter Work & Test Due by 9/18. Take Chapter test on Schoology (it will be timed, so once you start, you cannot stop - there are no re-takes). The test will be open until Tuesday (9/18 @ 3:30 pm KST)
